Additional Program Information
About the MRI Advanced Technical Certificate:
The St. Philip’s College Radiography Technology Program has an educational opportunity for American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologists to earn an Advanced Technical Certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The program is designed for those working as imaging technologists.
What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging?
As defined by the United States Food and Drug Administration, “Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging procedure that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce cross-sectional images of organs and internal structures of the body. Because the signal detected by an MRI machine varies depending on the water content and local magnetic properties of a particular area of the body, different tissues or substances can be distinguished from one another in the study image. MRI can give different information about structures in the body than can be obtained using a standard x-ray, ultrasound, or computed tomography (CT) exam. For example, an MRI exam of a joint can provide detailed images of ligaments and cartilage, which are not visible using other study types. In some cases, a magnetically active material (called a contrast agent) is used to show internal structures or abnormalities more clearly.”
Who can apply for the program?
Applicants must be graduates of an accredited Radiologic Science or Radiology Technology program and hold current registration in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and a current license with the Texas Medical Board. Application to the program is required.
How do I apply?
Submit an completed application
Provide proof of certification of RT (ARRT) and Texas State License
An unofficial copy of college transcript(s)
Resume to include work experience in the Imaging Sciences
