Additional Program Information

The Radiography Technologist Program at St. Philip’s College is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). This program prepares students to function as competent entry-level radiographers.

Students must be accepted into the program prior to registering for any RADR courses. All courses within the program curricula must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Students accepted to the program are required to provide evidence of meeting immunization requirements, drug and background screenings and evidence of personal health insurance. The student will experience clinical training in area hospitals, imaging centers, and orthopedic groups. Students interested in the program must be able to meet technical standards (Job Functions) of the Radiography Technology Program required for the profession.

The Radiography Technologist Program leads to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and the program is completed within 21 months of acceptance into the program.

The program requires the following:

  • Assignment to a cohort of approximately 45-55 students every fall semester with full-time attendance throughout the program to include summer enrollment.
  • The clinical competency requirements include the ten general patient care activities, 36 mandatory procedures, and 15 of the 34 elective procedures.
  • Content and clinical practice experiences are designed to sequentially develop, apply, critically analyze, integrate, synthesize and evaluate concepts and theories in the performance of radiologic procedures.  Through structured, sequential, competency-based clinical assignments, concepts of team practice, patient-centered clinical practice and professional development are discussed, examined and evaluated.
  • All students must be able to meet the clinical and classroom schedules; failure to do so will result in being dropped.
  • Special Tuition Fee of $88 per semester credit hour.

Upon successful completion of the Radiography Technology Program, the graduate must pass the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) to obtain authorization to work and utilize the designation R.T.(R) (ARRT) after their name. Additionally, the Radiography Technology graduate must pursue a state license through the Texas Medical Board to practice within the State of Texas. It’s important to note that graduation and certifications are distinct processes and remain the responsibility of the individual student.
