The Invasive Cardiovascular Technology (ICVT) Program at St. Philip’s College will prepare students to work in the specialized field of cardiovascular medicine. The program is designed to develop and train students to operate in cardiac catheterization and interventional laboratories. Invasive Cardiovascular Technology graduates assist cardiologist and the cardiovascular team performing complex cardiac procedures to include: diagnostic and interventional coronary interventions, electrophysiology studies, balloon angioplasty, coronary and peripheral artery stenting, hemodynamic monitoring, and assist in the Acute Cardiac Life Saving measures for patients with coronary artery disease.

Student must apply and be selected prior to be admitted to the program. Evaluation for admission to the program includes, but not limited to, successfully completing program prerequisites, cumulative GPA, previous healthcare experience, and TEAS V examination. Students accepted to the program are required to provide evidence of meeting immunization requirements, drug and background screenings and evidence of personal health insurance as described on the Health Sciences Webpage. The program includes lecture and laboratory courses in invasive cardiovascular science and procedures and clinical education courses conducted in settings where invasive cardiovascular technology is provided. In addition, students a special tuition fee of $700 is applied each semester of the program.

The ICT program leads to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and encompasses a four-semester course of study requiring a total of 60 semester hours of credit. Graduates from the program are eligible to sit for the examination to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) after satisfying the. Qualified techs may apply for a Limited Medical Radiologic Technology (LMRT) License (required to operate the patient table and any radiology equipment within the lab; as required by the State of Texas.)
