Additional Program Information
The Radiography Program at St. Philip’s College is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). This program prepares students to function as competent entry-level radiographers.
Students must be accepted into the program prior to beginning. Evaluation criteria includes but not limited to: a combined cumulative 2.8 GPA is required from all colleges and universities attended; together with three (3) academic curriculum college-level courses completed at the time of application submission. All courses within the program curricula must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Students accepted to the program are required to provide evidence of meeting immunization requirements, drug and background screenings and evidence of personal health insurance as described on the Health Sciences Webpage. The student will experience clinical training in area hospitals, imaging centers, and orthopedic groups. Students interested in the Radiography Technology Program must be able to meet technical standards (Job Functions) of the Radiography Technology Program required for the profession.
The Radiography Technology Program leads to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and the program is completed within 24 months of acceptance into the program..
The program requires the following:
- Assignment to a cohort of approximately 45-50 students every Summer semester with full time attendance throughout the program to include summer enrollment.
- The clinical competency requirements include the six general patient care activities, 31 mandatory procedures, and 15 of the 35 elective procedures.
- Content and clinical practice experiences are designed to sequentially develop, apply, critically analyze, integrate, synthesize and evaluate concepts and theories in the performance of radiologic procedures. Through structured, sequential, competency-based clinical assignments, concepts of team practice, patient-centered clinical practice and professional development are discussed, examined and evaluated.
- All students must be able to meet the clinical and classroom schedules; failure to do so will result in being dropped.
- Special Tuition Fee of $700 every semester of the program.
Upon successful completion of the Radiography Technology Program, the graduate must successfully complete the national certification examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T) to work and to use the initials R.T.(R) ARRT following their name. The Radiography Technology graduate is also required to seek a state license through the Texas Medical Board to be eligible to practice in the State of Texas. Graduation and certifications are separate mechanisms and are the responsibility of the individual student.
