Bookkeeping Specialist/Tax,O.S.A.

The Bookkeeping Specialist/Tax, O.S.A. introduces students to basic steps of the accounting cycle, industry standard accounting system software, spreadsheet development and payroll accounting for candidates seeking an entry level bookkeeping position. Emphasis is on a small business setting and workforce preparation skills as a Tax Preparer with certification from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Note: This Occupational Skills Award is not for “Accounting” majors as it does not transfer to a 4 year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in “Accounting.” Students seeking a 4 year BBA degree in “Accounting” must follow Associate of Arts (AA) degree, Business Administration FOS: Pre-Major “Accounting.” Instead, with this award students may pursue the Bookkeeping Specialist, AAS degree to transfer to a BAAS workforce degree with “Business Concentration,” not “Accounting” major at Texas A&M;, SA.
Note from the Texas Board of Public Accountancy: You can only refer to yourself as a CPA, accountant or auditor if you are a licensed CPA in the state of Texas. See Section 901.453 of The Public Accountancy Act. In addition, a CPA should avoid the use of terms such as “specialist Although the Board has the authority to recognize specializations in the practice of public accounting, it currently does not do so. See Section 901.157 of The Public Accountancy Act.
Therefore, on your resume, you should state the degree, certificate or occupational skills award you received from Alamo Colleges. Do not refer to yourself as an accountant or auditor if you are not a licensed Certifiied Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Texas.
