The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Graduates of the program are eligible to take a national examination to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). The national examination is administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT), which can be contacted at www.nbcot.org or by writing to NBCOT, ATTN: CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION, 12 South Summit Avenue, Suite 100, Gaithersburg, MD 20877-4150 or (301) 990-7979.
Once certified, the COTA must apply to the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners (TBOTE), 333 Guadalupe, Suite 2-510, Austin, TX 78701-3942, for a licensure to practice in the state of Texas. TOBTE’s phone number is: 512-305-6900.
Graduation, certification and licensure are separate mechanisms and are the responsibility of the individual student. It is also the students’ responsibility to check the OTA web page for updates.
All prerequisite courses and all courses required within the listed curriculum must be passed with a grade of “C” or higher.All students must complete an application packet for the OTA Program, in addition to applying for St. Philip’s College.
