CVTT 2473 - Electrophysiology Instrumentation II
Prerequisites: CVTT 2470, CVTT 2471, CVTT 2460 Corequisites: CVTT 2472, CVTT 2462
Integrated Reading & Writing Basic Skills Prerequisite: INRW 0420
Math Basic Skills Prerequisite: MATH 0320
This course is designed to provide advanced training in electrophysiology technologies, with a focus on both mapping and therapeutic devices. In this course, students learn to identify eccentric and concentric conduction patterns during electrophysiology studies and compare the effectiveness of cardiac resynchronization therapy to pharmacological approaches for treating tachyarrhythmias. They also correlate patient symptoms in structural and non-structural heart disease with appropriate treatment strategies and differentiate among various 3D electrophysiology mapping technologies. Students further develop the ability to correlate specific electrophysiologic properties with procedural endpoints and evaluate device settings using advanced analyzers and programmers. Practical skills are emphasized as students assemble and handle advanced electrophysiology tools and equipment, assist with arrhythmia mapping through ECG/EGM analysis, activation, pacing, and entrainment mapping, operate ablation equipment while monitoring parameters such as time, temperature, and impedance, and assist with the implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy devices. Additionally, the course covers performing comprehensive ECG/EGM measurements and analysis. This integrated approach of advanced theoretical concepts and hands-on training prepares students to meet the complex technical demands of modern electrophysiology procedures and supports their progression toward independent clinical practice.
