SPC Scholarships


 

Scholarships

Institutional scholarships are available for students who are enrolled in at least 6+ hours and have a GPA of 2.5 or better. A limited number of awards are available for tuition, fees, and books. The Alamo Colleges Foundation will recognize student academic achievement at each of the district colleges. St. Philip’s College students of any academic or vocational major must complete an application which is available online at www.alamo.edu/SPC/scholarships/. Private scholarships are submitted to Student Financial Services for processing and maintaining documentation on a recipient. The amounts may vary from donor to donor. The donors set their own criteria and, in some cases, will designate the recipient(s). The scholarship coordinators offices are in Sutton Learning Center (SLC) suite 319D &319E Gloria Hernandez, 210-486-2498 and Sonia Flores 210-486-2886 will conduct the necessary follow-up depending on the scholarships’ requirements.

Adena Williams Loston Presidential Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship was established by the 14th president of St. Philip’s College. This competitive scholarship is awarded to full time students who maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. Students must be working toward a degree or certificate. The amount of an award is approximately $1,000 per academic year.

St. Philip’s College General Scholarship. This scholarship was founded for the purpose of recognizing students of academic merit within specific academic or vocational departments. Awardees who are selected must have and maintain a minimum of a 2.5 overall GPA in their academic records at St. Philip’s College. The average award for full-time study for an academic year is $1,000, depending upon financial need and the number of hours in which the student is enrolled. Students receiving a Fall award may be considered, and awarded, a Spring award if they continue to meet all minimum criteria. Continuing and new students who are full or part-time may apply.

Artemisia Bowden Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established in honor of Artemisia Bowden, long-time President of St. Philip’s College. This highly competitive scholarship is awarded to full-time or part-time students who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. Approximately two awardees are chosen each year for the $1,000 scholarship which is renewable for a second year.

Reverend G. Richard Thayer Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is available to full-time and part-time students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and show a commitment to the field of study in Music or Culinary Arts. Amount of award varies on the fund’s availability.

The Presidential Scholarship. is available to full time students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and who are able to show a commitment to the scholarship requirements. The scholarship is valued at $3,000. In addition, this scholarship offers a $1,000 transferable scholarship to a university upon graduation. Complete scholarship application, compose a 500-word typed essay outlining your career plans, commitment to completing your college degree and commitment to a specific community service activity. Submit 2 recommendation forms from a supervisor or other person able to comment on your professional performance (no relatives or classmates), provide SPC transcripts, and participate in an interview with the President and/or designee.

St. Philip’s College Alumni Association Scholarship. This scholarship was created to assist students at St. Philip’s College in   any major, with a minimum 2.5 GPA, and enrolled full or part time.

San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc., (S.A.L.E.) Scholarship. This scholarship was designed to aid academically qualified students majoring in agribusiness, agriculture, food and fiber, and life or health sciences. Applicants must be permanent residents or U.S. citizens and must graduate as residents from one of the following counties: Bexar, Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, Wilson, Frio, Karnes, or Kerr. Finally, applicants must be full-time students, maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Greater Texas Foundation Day Care Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship pays for childcare for children of single-parents. Must be full-time students, maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Student Engagement Scholarship. The purpose of the Student Engagement Grant (SEG) Scholarship initiative is to stimulate development of special college initiatives; support recruitment and increase enrollment in targeted programs and to improve student retention by providing financial support and increased opportunities for student engagement. Applicants can be full or part time, maintain 2.5 GPA.

AT&T Vocational-Technical Scholarship. A workforce readiness program to help recipients successfully complete their degree and/or certificate program. Recipient must have a financial need as determined by the FAFSA and/or unplanned life events affecting head of household such as unemployment, disability, crime victimization, unplanned pregnancy, major illness, unexpected debt or property loss. Scholarships will provide $1,000 per year to students.

“Empowering Today’s Students to be Tomorrow’s Leaders”

The Alamo Colleges Student Leadership Institute (SLI) offers all college students the opportunity to enhance their leadership mindset, skill set, and tool set. This two-semester leadership program imparts the learning tools and resources for students to become proactive, productive, and engaging leaders on campus, in the workplace, and in diverse communities. Students involved in SLI enhance personal and professional network by building relationships with peers across the Alamo Colleges, as well as local, national, and global business and community leaders. For applications or further information, contact your student activities office or call the SLI office directly at 210-485-0793.
