Academic Advising

Academic advising is a shared responsibility between you and your advisor meant to help you to reach your educational and career goals. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to make decisions about your life goals by creating a plan to reach those goals. Academic advisers can assist in this process by helping you to understand options, determine resources and, when necessary, identify alternatives. To be adequately prepared for registration, seek out academic advising before the registration process begins so that you are familiar with pre-requisites, degrees and programs, and transfer institution requirements.

Admissions and Records

The Admissions & Records/Enrollment Services processes admissions applications (Applytexas), high school and college transcripts, college transcript requests, state residency determinations, early admissions, and proof of bacterial meningitis vaccinations.

Americans with Disabilities Act/ADA Coordinator

The Office of Disability Support Services ensures reasonable accommodations for access to all courses, programs, services, jobs, activities and facilities. Qualified students with learning, physical, developmental, mental, or emotional disabilities who are attending or contemplating attending any of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District are eligible for services when they have a documented disability condition as defined by the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Accommodations may include interpreter services, special testing arrangements, readers, scribes, or note taking assistance. Career and Job Placement Services

The Career Services office helps you to research and identify majors and careers, search for employment, develop resumes, and improve interviewing skills. Career Coach and Focus 2 are assessment programs available at your center. MyAlamoCareer.org, a virtual career and placement center, offers a wide range of career and workforce resources. 

Counseling Services

Licensed personal counselors are available to provide free short-term or crisis counseling. If you believe that you need long-term help, you will be referred to the appropriate external resources. If you need information about community resources such as childcare, financial assistance for college, medical or dental care, legal assistance, and assistance for military families, you can access the online Resource Guide or come in to the office location listed in the academic catalog. All resources listed are free or low-cost and are available in Bexar and surrounding counties.

Computer Labs

Open computer labs are available for student use. Networked computers are loaded with general and special use software and are connected to the Internet so that you can access your ACES email. Students are expected to follow all Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources guidelines posted in the student computer labs and listed in the academic catalog.

International Student Services

International Student Services is dedicated to helping international students succeed while enrolled at any of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District and ensuring that they return home with memories of a fulfilling American experience. International Student Services is the official liaison between the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). International Student Services also assists students with applications for admission, registration, medical insurance, etc. Enrolled international students are encouraged to take advantage of USCIS benefits while maintaining their legal status from the point of college admission to the point of transfer to another institution or return to their home country. Transcript Request

Unofficial transcripts are free and can be printed through self-service in ACES. Note that if you have a “transcript hold” on your record you will not be able to view or print your transcript until the hold is resolved.

The first copy of your official transcript is free, but you will be charged $10 for each additional copy.  Transcript requests can take 3-5 business days to be processed. Alamo Colleges will not mail via overnight services or fax to other educational institutions, students, employers or other third parties or accept students’ personal requests for transcripts via email or phone. Educational Releases signed by the student are required for each request and are subject to review.

Transfer Services and Articulation Agreements

The colleges in the Alamo Colleges District offer a variety of services to assist you in transferring to a four-year institution. Articulation agreements are available with local and state institutions for a range of majors.

Transfer Curricula and Resolution of Transfer Disputes

If you are interested in transferring to a college in the Alamo Colleges District, all courses must come from an accredited institution. A grade of “C” or better is required for all technical courses and a grade of “D” or better is required for all other academic coursework. Transfer disputes may arise when you are transferring courses to a college in the Alamo Colleges District from other institutions and/or when courses at a college in the Alamo Colleges District are not accepted for credit by another Texas public institution of higher education. Both institutions involved in the transfer issue will attempt to resolve the transfer dispute in accordance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board rules and/or guidelines.

Tutoring

Tutoring is offered free of charge in a variety of disciplines. Taking advantage of tutoring can improve your academic performance, whether you are having difficulty in a subject or want to improve your grades. Talk to your instructor about tutoring services, or stop by the Tutoring Services Department for more information. Veterans Affairs

The Office of Veterans Affairs offers assistance to students who receive educational assistance for veterans and/or their dependents.
