Associate of Science, concentration in Earth Sciences and Natural Energy Resources

Return to Programs and Courses - Natural Sciences Return to: Programs and Courses - Natural Sciences

This is an Associate of Science with a concentration in Earth Sciences and Natural Energy Resources.

St. Philip’s College shares the national concern about the small number of students involved in the Natural Sciences.  The Associate of Science’s Degree in Earth Sciences and Natural Energy Resources is offered as a way to engage students in the Natural Science arena.  The program includes meteorology and oceanography courses for the study of the major natural energy sources (wind, tides, waves, and indirectly the sun); chemistry, geology and biology courses will be focused to the alternative energy resources area.  These courses will serve also as a base for students interested in different fields of sciences such as engineering, geology, oceanography, meteorology, and others, thereby diversifying our science student population.

Becoming educated in alternative energy resources will place underrepresented and minority groups attending St. Philip’s College into a position to be leaders for solving one of the largest concerns of the world:  the harnessing of alternative energy resources.  Being at the vanguard of alternative energy sources, St. Philip’s students will be an asset for the community where they will find strong opportunities to be financially successful and to improve the well-being of our society.  Students will be in a position to integrate these courses into the curricula outlined by four year colleges or universities to which they plan to transfer.  Earth Sciences and Natural Energy Resources majors would follow the Associate of Science Degree plan.
