SPC Scholarships

Institutional scholarships are available for a student who has completed a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours with a GPA of 3.00 or better in all courses attempted. A limited number of awards are available for tuition, fees, and books. A student must be enrolled for a minimum of six (6) semester hours. An application may be obtained at www.alamo.edu/SPC/scholarships/. Private scholarships are submitted to Student Financial Services for processing and maintaining documentation on a recipient. The amounts may vary from donor to donor. The donors set their own criteria and, in some cases, will designate the recipient(s). The financial aid officer conducts the necessary follow-up depending on the requirements.

St. Philip’s College General Scholarship. This scholarship was founded for the purpose of recognizing students of academic merit within specific academic or vocational departments. Awardees who are selected must have and maintain a minimum of a 3.5 overall GPA in their academic records at St. Philip’s College. The average award for full-time study for an academic year is $1,000, depending upon financial need and the number of hours in which the student is enrolled for two consecutive terms. Continuing and new students who are full or part-time may apply.

Artemisia Bowden Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established in honor of Artemisia Bowden, long-time President of St. Philip’s College. This highly competitive scholarship is awarded to full-time students who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. Approximately two awardees are chosen each year for the $1,000 scholarship which is renewable for a second year.

Reverend G. Richard Thayer Memorial Scholarship is available to full and part time students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and show a commitment to the field of study in Music or Culinary Arts. Amount of award varies. To apply complete scholarship application, compose a 500 word typed essay outlining your career plans and commitment to completing your college degree, provide SPC transcripts, submit 2 recommendation forms from a supervisor or other person able to comment on your professional performance (no relatives or classmates).

The Presidential Scholarship is available to full time students with a GPA of 4.0 or higher and who are able to show a commitment to the scholarship requirements. The scholarship is valued at $3,000. To apply complete scholarship application, compose a 500 word typed essay outlining your career plans, commitment to completing your college degree and commitment to a specific community service activity. Submit 2 recommendation forms from a supervisor or other person able to comment on your professional performance (no relatives or classmates), provide SPC transcripts, and participate in an interview with the President and/or designee.

Alamo Colleges Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship was conceived as a means of recognizing student academic achievement at each of the district colleges. Students of any academic or vocational major must complete an application which is available online at www.alamo.edu/foundation/scholarships.htm. To be eligible, students must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA, register for full-time study, and demonstrate financial need. Selection of awardees is determined by a faculty screening committee at each college with final approval by the Alamo Community College District Foundation Board. The deadline for receipt of the application is April 15 for the following academic year. The amount of each award is $1,000 per year and is renewable for a second year.

San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc., (S.A.L.E.) Scholarship. This $1,000 renewable scholarship was designed to aid academically qualified and needy students majoring in agribusiness, agriculture, food and fiber, and life or health sciences. Applicants must be permanent residents or U.S. citizens and must graduate as residents from one of the following counties: Bexar, Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, Wilson, Frio, Karnes, or Kerr. Finally, applicants must be full-time students, maintain a 2.0 GPA, and, upon completion of their coursework at an Alamo Colleges college, plan to transfer to a four-year university within Texas. The deadline for submission of the S.A.L.E. Scholarship Application is April 15 each year for the following academic year.

Kimmelman Child Care Scholarship. This scholarship pays for childcare for one year.

Robert B. Taylor Scholarship. This scholarship awards up to $750 per semester. It was created to assist African-American & Hispanic students seeking a degree in the Nursing or Allied Health fields. The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Applications can be submitted at www.alamo.edu/foundation/scholarships.htm.

NSF Scholarship. Open to prospective or current St. Philip’s College students interested in majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Pre-Engineering, or Statistics. This scholarship will pay for tuition, books, in-state conferences, field trips, and workshops.

Student Engagement Scholarship. The goal of the grant is to get students involved in service-learning and recruitment activities that will promote student growth, provide a connection to the faculty, and provide an avenue to showcase the degrees and programs supported by the college.

AT&T Vocational-Technical Scholarship. A workforce readiness program to help recipients successfully complete their degree and/or certificate program. Recipient must have a financial need as determined by the FAFSA and/or unplanned life events affecting head of household such as unemployment, disability, crime victimization, unplanned pregnancy, major illness, unexpected debt or property loss. Scholarship will provide $1,000 per year to students.

“Empowering Today’s Students to be Tomorrow’s Leaders”

The Alamo Colleges Student Leadership Institute (SLI) offers all college students the opportunity to enhance their leadership mindset, skill set, and tool set. This two-semester leadership program imparts the learning tools and resources for students to become proactive, productive, and engaging leaders on campus, in the workplace, and in diverse communities.
